Cardphone AUS

Cardphone Australia started up in 1994 with payphone technology using Mobile devices incorporated into a Payphone using magnetic cards similar to Anritsu and Tamura, but produced for Omron who made the readers for Cardphone payphones. Early test cards were loaded on both sides of the card, but normal issued cards were coded on ONE side only, as the usage scale indicates. The first temporary installations were at major events such as the 1994 Melbourne Horse racing carnival (of which the Melbourne Cup is the highlight) Cricket and Tennis events were also attended by these payphones, and the card themes produced for these events reflect that. (The payphones used original RED cabin payphone boxes refurbished)

Cardphone won a contract to install their phones on Victorian Countrylink trains, operating in regional Victoria. This is reflected in following train themed cards. (2 cards above) Paytel Australia finally bought out Cardphone and took over the train licenses. First 2 cards above (reflected in new train themed cards on the Paytel magstipe cards)
